New Manufacturing Plant in Trencin, Slovak Republic
AU Optronics Corp., a BenQ Group affiliate company and one of the top 3 companies worldwide for the design, development and sales of advanced TFT-LCD technology and the World's #1 Manufacturer of large TFT-LCD Panels, plans to invest more than 191 million Euro starting from 2010. The new manufacturing facility of AU Optronics (Slovakia) will be located in Trencin, western Slovakia, about 125 kilometers from Bratislava with the fab area of around 200,000 square meters. Construction shall begin next year, and the project will create about 1,300 jobs by 2013.
The initial product lines will be focused on large-sized LCD modules. Other component companies within the group may be added to the production site in the future.
Mr. K.Y. Lee (Chairman of BenQ Corporation and AUO) noted during the signing ceremony that Europe is one of the major markets for LCD TV. Both BenQ Corp and AU Optronics regard Europe as the highly potential growth market for its green business. To provide clients direct and prompt supports, strengthen its global presence, and be closer to customers are the key considerations of this investment project. Slovakia not only offers high quality and competitive human resources to enterprises, but also has stable economy development to drive the growth of GDP.
AU Optronics has LCD module plants in Taiwan, China and the Czech Republic. Modules are glass panels fitted with components such as chips and backlights before being used in computers and televisions.
